G'day Bus. To answer your Questions
I use the Lahiri ayanamsa and chose this as the most reliable, and am an Eastern Hindu professional Astrologer in Australia.The techniques I use are the tradional ones with mainly the navamsa and ashtakavaga teckniques with vashaphal and little known use of the lunar returns. sign meanings which I found are much the same in tropical as well.

Hi Keven,

You say that you use Lahiri which you chose as the most reliable. How many others did you look at and what criteria do you use to test them? It would be good to get some input on this subject from some more siderealists, east and west.

Also, it would be instructive to others to know which software package you find best suits your needs in the work that you do.

I use the Fagan/Bradley ayanamsa.

This ayanamsa is for me the most precise in calculating Dasas and Bhuktis and having their ingress and egress dates match life events.

I am primarily a Tropical astrologer, but I also use Western Sidereal astrology in relationship analysis. I have developed a "Cross-Zodiac" synastry technique wherein the tropical nativity of one individual is compared to the sidereal nativity of the second person. I have found that the completion of karma between two souls can be perceived using this method (when the Tropical planet of one conjoins the Sidereal angle of the other, or vice versa).

A recent example of this phenomenon was found in the horoscopes of President-elect Obama and Senator McCain:

The Sidereal Sun of Mr McCain (using the Fagan/Bradley ayanamsa) is in a partile conjunction (exact to the degree and minute of arc) with the Tropical Sun of Mr Obama; the Tropical Sun of Mr Obama also conjoins the Sidereal Descendant of Mr McCain.

If there is interest, I would be happy to elucidate the theoretical underpinning of how the four Zodiacs (Tropical; Sidereal; Draconic; Heliocentric) work together as a Unified Field.

I find that stargazing for longer periods and consistently shows energies of planets and stars.

If I gaze long enough in Jupiter for example I can feel different flavour of its energy when it moves along the ecliptic.
Sometimes it's coloured by a fixed star, sometimes by a constellation.

Any visible planet (in my case Mars and Jupiter) conjuncting Antares in Scorpio is completely intensified. Based on that it is hard to believe that the planet was in Sagittarius.

I practice "western" astrology, using the precession-corrected tropical zodiac for the most part because it helps me to 1) better communicate with early-studies students, and 2) more efficiently reach out to the Tropical Zodiac community. One of my criticisms of the Sidereal school is that they have done a poor job of selling their practices since Cyril Fagan passed on and Astrology magazine stopped publishing.

While borrowing some classical Sidereal techniques, my methods do not appear to be the same as those advocated by Fagan or, currently, by Jim Eshelman (I'm using these two representatives of the Sidereal school for comparison only, recognizing that both have made enormous contributions to our field of interest). Permit me to note the key features of my methods:

** I use precession-corrected Tropical solar return charts.
** I use a form of the Sidereal PSSR chart; I don't use the progressed Moon in any way, just angles.

** I utilized the MC-Solar Cycle as a distinct tool for timing and prediction. The relationship of the MC and Sun's house position in succeeding Solar Return charts is actually a reflection of the cycle that starts at birth and links every solar return and is directly shown in the PSSR-type charts. The following posts will expand this view -- noted by "** A" etc.
** A) The natal angles, when they realign in a solar return, represent a sort of event horizon, in which the whole nativity is being restated and challenged.
** B) The natal anges, when they realign in a daily angles chart (or PSSR) really emphasize the transiting angular planets of that date.
** C) When a natal angle (for example, the Ascendant) comes to another angle in a Solar Return or Daily Angles chart, the interpretive meaning of that angle is expressed through the the chart's angle. Natal Ascendant at S/R MC would suggest that one's established personality and attitudes are put on public display, one may become a spokesman for a corporation, etc. In other words, angles at angles have interpretive meanings.
** D) The progressing MC-Solar Cycle results, in the daily charts, in the MC reaching its opposition point 4 months 3 weeks following the S/R date. This seems to be a "challenge" point to the S/R chart's meaning. At 9 months and 2 weeks following the S/R, the MC is reestablished at its S/R MC position. This seems to be a "completion" or resolving point for the S/R chart.
** E) Likewise, when the natal MC touches on progressed daily angles chart's IC angle, this also seems to be a challenge point. All in all, this "angles to angles" concept appears to be highly useful in interpretation and makes it easier to establish the framework for a yearly timeline upon which to base predictive work. Note, I use Juan Revilla's RIYAL software which presents a PSSR or SQ timeline with daily MC and Ascendant angles listed for the whole year. None of my other software applications provides this handy tool.

** I utilize some mid-point structures (not many) and equal arcs in my work, something which does not seem to be common practice by other Sidereal astrologers.

** I do not use signs in any of my work except for natal charts and mundane affairs. Likewise, I do not use houses except for natal charts and mundane affairs.

** I have found that orbs of 3 degrees will work for most daily angles charts, with orbs up to 6 degrees often suggesting emerging or diminishing issues. Since these chart angles move so rapidly these wider orbs work. I have been criticized for not sticking with the one degree or less approach of many Siderealists.

I have found that simplicity works best, that the core of what a chart is all about shows up well when there isn't much clutter. Dave

Hi David, I can certainly understand why you use ‘just angles’ since the angles of any chart was the ‘cornerstone’ of Cyril Fagan’s work pertaining to Sidereal Astrology. However, I have found the progressed Quotidian Moon (Q1 RATE) in a Sidereal Solar Return or a Tropical Solar Return adjusted for Precession offers, at times, outstanding symbolism associated with ‘outstanding incidents’. Hi Steve, thanks for your input. It would be helpful to show, for those who don't know or don't remember (like me),
how to calculate the Q1 (and Q2) progressed moon in a SSR. I went to the link you provided and found your examples compelling.

It looks like you're using Solar Fire for your examples. If you could include the procedure you use in SF to produce your examples that, too, would be helpful.

Hi Buz, I only know how to calculate Quotidians charts using Solar Fire. The following are the steps.

1: Go into your Preferences settings and click the Progs/Dirns tab.

2: Under Chart Angle Progression Type—Select Mean Quotidian

3: Under Progression Day Type Click the Button Bija (Q1). Note the other option is the Standard Q2 rate. I have found the Q1 rate offers more outstanding symbolic hits than the Q2 rate but more research needs to be done.

4: Then click the OK button. You must remember to change your progression type because Solar Fire will always default to your last settings.

5: Then compute a Solar Return. If you are using the Tropical zodiac you must adjust for precession by checking the Precession button. If you don’t adjust for precession in the Tropical zodiac you will get false angles on the calculated Solar Return.

6: After computing a Solar Return you highlight (in blue) under Calculated Charts the Solar Return you selected. Always remember the Solar Return must be relocated to the residence city.

7: Once your selected Solar Return is highlighted in blue under the Calculated Charts then click on Chart in the upper left hand corner on the tool bar.

8: Then Select Progression or key F4.

9: Then you will find yourself in the Progression Window. Make your necessary selections of day you want to progress too. Then click OK and your Quotidian Chart will be calculated.

Another method in Solar Fire for scanning for Quotidian Hits is to calculate a Solar Return and then calculate a progressed Quotidian chart a couple of days after the Solar Return, then highlight the Quotidian Chart in blue, then click on Dynamic on the tool Bar. Then select Animate Chart. On the right hand side under ‘Step By’ you have the options of selecting days, months, hours, minutes, etc. I usually select months and click on the forward arrow button to scan when the progressed Solar Return Moon falls partile on the angles (you will have to go to the day option in order to see the progressed Moon partile the angles. Then I check and see if there are aspects to the progressed Solar Return Moon or Natal Moon. This offers excellent symbolism for the native, relative to their environment.

Another good mental exercise is to always note if the progressed Moon will progress to a partile conjunction or opposition during the Solar Year. The Q1 rate will move app. 13 degrees in a Solar Year. If this is the case then there is high possibility the progressed Solar will form a Paran. These will produce major events.

I hope this helps. If not I will be glad to answer any other questions that I can. If I can’t answer them I know another siderealist who can answer.
