Emanation

Postby Robert_Schmidt on Sat Mar 07, 2009 2:14 pm

Hi Tim,

It has been a while. I hope you are doing well.

I have some new thoughts about Platonism and early Hellenistic Astrology.

For instance, the Greek word for separation from planetary configurations in the first half of the synodic cycle is aporroia 'flowing forth' or 'emanation.' This of course is also the word used by Plotinus for the hierarchical emanation from the one. However, the word most likely entered Hellenistic Astrology some time prior to the Christian era.

Would you like to come out and play?

Hi Robert
yes it has been a while. didn't see your note before Michael posted my little piece. Am in the midst of many things right now; am planning a workshop for my folk up here to focus on this topic starting in late April and running thru the summer--so hope to be quite involved once I really 'get here.' So yes, I'd like to come out and play. And am currently "brushing up" -- i.e. relearning -- Attic Greek... again. also reading Plotinus via Armstrong 'n Greek, so naturally was interested in your remark. I really look forward to reconnecting with you!
